A woman is accused of fatally stabbing her 23-year-old daughter inside a Delaware County home, Upper Darby police announced on Tuesday, Dec. 23.

The stabbing happened around 6:30 a.m. inside a residence on the 200 block of South Bishop Avenue in the Secane section of Upper Darby Township, according to authorities.

The victim’s father had been working an overnight shift and returned home to find the scene before calling 911, 6abc Action News reports. By the time officers arrived, the 23-year-old woman had suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, investigators said.

The victim’s mother was taken into custody at the home and transported to a hospital for evaluation, police said. She is expected to face charges, including homicide. A motive for the killing has not been released.

Investigators also said the family dog was stabbed during the incident and was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.

Authorities stressed the stabbing was an isolated incident and said there is no threat to the community. Detectives continue to investigate, and additional updates are expected as the case develops.

Police said domestic violence resources will be made available to the community. Names of those involved have not been released.
