The postseason has only brought the Pittsburgh Steelers misery in recent years. They haven’t won a playoff game since the 2016 season, and most of their postseason losses since then have been blowouts. However, that could change this year. The Steelers secured their playoff spot by beating the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18. They’ll play the Houston Texans in the first round of the playoffs. Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy is confident that Pittsburgh will lose that game, though.

“I’m betting $50,000 against them this next game, though…” McCoy said recently on his Speakeasy podcast. “That’s a layup. That’s really called taking candy from a baby. You said baby crying, ‘Give me that.’”

That’s not a bad idea based solely on the Steelers’ recent playoff appearances. There have been letdowns in the past, and their team still has many issues. They were one missed field goal away from losing to the Ravens and missing the postseason.

However, several other trends could favor the Steelers. For instance, the Texans have never won a road playoff game. Their home stadium is a dome, so perhaps playing in the elements in Pittsburgh could give them issues.

Also, Mike Tomlin has never lost a game at home on Monday night. In fact, the Steelers haven’t lost in Pittsburgh on Monday night since 1991. They’ve been dominant on that day, which is another point in their favor for their upcoming game.

Still, the Texans are an intimidating foe. They’ve won their last nine games, finishing the season at 12-5. They also have the league’s best defense, which could prove to be a serious problem for Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers’ offense. That group has struggled with consistency this year.

While the Steelers have some things going for them, McCoy doesn’t have a high opinion of them. He doesn’t even think they were the better team in their win over the Ravens.

“Hell no. Watching the Steelers play today, it hurt watching that. Lamar [Jackson] and them, it looked like it was effortless the way they was playing. Even though they lost, they kept going down, they came back.

“Even when they started the game out, 10-0 quick. I thought they would win this game easily. Better team, better talent… The matchup favors the Ravens on every level.”

McCoy might think that, but the Steelers won that game. You can blame the Ravens’ kicker for missing a game-winning field goal, but the Steelers made some big plays. That included posting two touchdown-scoring drives in the fourth quarter.

Whether he thinks they’re the better team or not, the Steelers are in the playoffs. Maybe they’ll lose to the Texans. It certainly doesn’t look like an easy game. However, the Steelers aren’t hopeless. They’re in the postseason for a reason.
