City of Walhalla passes first reading of 2026 budget

  • October 19, 2025

WALHALLA, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The city of Walhalla passed the first reading of its budget for next year.

One major piece of the proposed budget is a transfer of over a half a million dollars from the utility fund but residents and some city officials don’t believe the current water system can handle the cut.

Utilities director Laramie Hinkle said the proposed budget will have a major impact on replacing water lines and maintaining upkeep on the water plant.

During the meeting, the council discussed the budget for less than five minutes before voting.

Mayor Tim Hall mentioned that if an emergency happens the utility department only has two weeks worth of funds.

The city is planning to have two budget workshops before the second and final reading, one primarily focusing on utilities.
