Pittsburgh’s 62nd Mayor Corey O’Connor was sworn into office Monday afternoon and finished out the night with a huge celebration. The crowd of family, friends, and supporters at the Children’s Museum was so large that it was difficult to move through the room. “You wouldn’t do it unless you believed in them,” O’Connor said. “And I think that would be my thing is, I believe in Pittsburgh, and I believe in Pittsburghers. And I think that’s why we’re all excited tonight.” Those in attendance said they believe in O’Connor just as strongly.“We’re going to get behind him and support him because he’s young, he’s creative, he has the kind of energy, and he has a good heart, and that’s what’s most important,” Jackie Dixon said.For many in the crowd who knew O’Connor’s late father and former Pittsburgh Mayor Bob O’Connor, Monday was a long time coming. Supporters said they are excited about O’Connor’s policies and personality.“Job opportunities. He’ll bring business back into the city of Pittsburgh,” Fran Barrett said. “A sports guy. Golfer.
