BALA CYNWYD, PA — Three people are in custody after a police chase that started as an investigation into an armed robbery incident in the Lower Merion area, according to reports.

Lower Merion Police issued a shelter in place and locked down nearby schools as they investigated three armed men who may have been looking to rob an armored truck near on City Avenue.

The shelter in place was lifted at about 2 p.m.

Officers reportedly saw a vehicle approach a Brink’s armored truck in Bala Cynwyd before speeding off, leading police on a chase.

NBC10 reports three suspects have been apprehended.

Belmont Hills Elementary, Cynwyd Elementary, Merion Elementary, Penn Valley Elementary, Penn Wynne Elementary, Bala Cynwyd Middle, Welsh Valley Middle, and Lower Merion High schools are all locked down as of 12:40 p.m. according to the Lower Merion School District.

Saint Joseph’s University also locked down its campus due to the incident, school officials told Patch.

Anyone who sees someone matching the descriptions is urged to call 911 immediately.
