For the second straight week, the Riverhounds along with Pitt, Duquesne and Robert Morris men’s teams all played on Saturday.
This time, the positive results for the Pittsburgh teams came pretty much across the board.
In addition, High School soccer playoffs started with WPIAL Boys Class 3A (Scoreboard) and Class 1A (Scoreboard) First Round action, with 16 teams advancing to the quarterfinal round in those two classifications. While most of the favorites and higher seeds won, there was one surprising result, in Class 1A, as Neshannock stunned Springdale by a 6-1 score, with Zayden Herb scoring ALL six goals!
While Sunday brings a break from men and the high school match schedule, both Robert Morris and Duquesne’s women’s college soccer teams are in action with important conference matchups as the season comes down to the last few games.

It all comes together for the Hounds
If you missed it late last night, everything broke the Riverhounds’ way.
The teams they’ve been chasing faltered in their respective matches (Hartford, Loudoun each lost while North Carolina drew), paving the way for the Hounds to move up in the standings to the coveted fourth place spot, which would secure a home playoff match.
Here’s the match report which also includes reaction from Acting Head Coach Rob Vincent.
“I’m really happy, really proud of the guys,” Rob Vincent, Acting Head Coach, said after the match.
“We maybe weathered a storm early in each of the halves, and we knew they’d probably try to put on a performance at home. But we felt they didn’t have as much to play for, so if we take the initiative and get control of the game, they’d back off a little. Overall, we’re real happy with the win. It was a convincing result.”
Riverhounds roll to 3-0 win at Monterey Bay to jump into coveted 4th place spot
With one match left in the season, Pittsburgh (12W-10L-7D, 43 points) secured a winning regular season for the eighth straight season and now control its destiny as they can clinch a home playoff match and a fourth (or third place) finish in the standings with a win in the season finale vs Phoenix next Saturday.
Also, this win secures an 8th straight winning season for the Hounds (12W-10L-7D).
Vincent now 2-0 as Acting Head Coach, since longtime Head Coach Bob Lilley was placed on administrative leave.
Pitt’s attack finally awakens with Arnau Vilamitjana picking up a hat trick in 4-2-win vs Syracuse
Led by a hat trick from graduate midfielder Arnau Vilamitjana, the Pitt men’s soccer team knocked off Syracuse, 4-2, Saturday evening at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
It was a much-needed win for the Panthers, who have struggled this season despite being strong on the ball, but they’ve mostly come up short in generating steady goal-scoring chances.
There was no shortage of Panthers goals on Saturday.
The result marked the Panthers’ (5-6-3, 1-4-1 ACC) first ACC win of the season and snapped a four-match winless streak. Pitt’s four goals were also the most Syracuse (6-5-2, 3-3-0 ACC) had allowed since Oct. 25 of last season.
Of note, the Orange entered Saturday’s match having conceded just eight goals all year.
Vilamitjana became the first Panther to record a hat trick since Luis Sahmkow on Sept. 18, 2023, while improving his team-leading point total to 19 (eight goals, three assists).
Next up, Pitt will host Wake Forest in the regular season home finale on Friday. With a win, they could pull to .500 overall record and head into the ACC Tournament with some positive momentum at the most important point in the season.
Duquesne MSOC also gets a much needed, 3-2 win, in a back-and-forth clash with GW
The Duquesne University men’s soccer team returned home to Rooney Field Saturday and sent the alumni home with a victory, earning a 3-2 triumph over George Washington on Alumni Weekend. The win snapped a four-game slide in Atlantic 10 contests and improved the Dukes to 7-4-2 (.615) overall during the 2025 season, including 2-4 (.333) in conference action.
A back-and-forth affair all evening and a contest emblematic for being wide open, Duquesne was able to grab its only lead of the contest at 79:33 in a goal that proved to be the game winner. A three-man touch led to sophomore Ofek Sasson lifting a cross to the far side.
Sophomore forward Marko Rasmussen was in position, burying his first goal of the year to give the Dukes a 3-2 advantage.
“One of the reasons we went with Marko late is because we knew he had that in his locker,” head coach Chase Brooks said. “His pace and his attacking mindset, we were just hoping he could get an opportunity to get one. Obviously, it worked out for us.”
Robert Morris MSOC continue to grind, remain without a loss in league play
RMU men’s soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw at Oakland in a match that was delayed by lightning strikes on Saturday evening in Michigan in a rematch of last season’s League Championship match.
With the result, the Colonials move to 4-2-6 overall and remain unbeaten in Horizon League play at 2-0-4.
After early chances from Royie Rahamim and Fabian Overkamp, Oakland was the first to find the scoresheet.
In the 28th minute, Gabriel Baylon struck from distance for his first goal of the season, giving the Golden Grizzlies a 1-0 advantage.
Oakland continued to press late in the first half, but goalkeeper Josh Lane stood tall, making three saves in the final eight minutes to keep it a one-goal game.
The Colonials found the equalizer in the 60th minute. Off a long throw-in from Jaxson Lee, midfielder Victor Koah rose above the defense and headed home the tying goal.
Play was halted in the 75th minute due to lightning, causing a delay of more than an hour. When action resumed, both sides pushed for the go-ahead goal.
Rahamim and Overkamp each had close-range headers sail just over the bar, while Oakland managed four more shots in the rain—all either off target or stopped by Lane. After a hard-fought 90 minutes (plus delay), the match ended 1-1.
