DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Motorists traveling through Luzerne and Lackawanna counties should prepare for lane restrictions on portions of Interstates 80 and 81 as PennDOT crews conduct inspections later this week and early next week.
On Friday, January 9, lane restrictions and moving lane closures are scheduled on Interstate 81 northbound and southbound between Exit 180 in Moosic and Exit 186 near Dunmore/Drinker Street. The work will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. as crews inspect overhead sign structures. Officials say short-term moving lane closures may occur at roughly 15-minute intervals.
Additional traffic impacts are expected on Monday, January 12, on Interstate 80 westbound in Luzerne County near the Interstate 81 interchange at Exit 260 A/B. A bridge inspection will require the passing lane to close from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a driving lane restriction from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Drivers should anticipate delays in both areas and are urged to use caution while traveling through work zones. PennDOT reminds motorists to obey posted speed limits, keep headlights on, watch for signs and flaggers, and avoid distractions. In heavy traffic, drivers are encouraged to use all available lanes until the merge point and take turns merging into open lanes.
Work schedules are weather-dependent.
