READING, Pa. – An organization that supports future baseball stars is getting a boost from a local leader.

State Rep. Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz presented a check to “Latin Fusion Baseball” on Thursday.

The $60,000 in state grant funding will support the group’s youth Little League and tournament participation.

The group plans to compete in Puerto Rico next month. It’s also working to bring college scouts out to meet with the players.

According to its website, the organization aims to train elite athletes who will become leaders in their community.

In November, the group announced on social media that it formed a new international affiliation with the Ontorio Rockies Academy in Canada and the Caribbean Bad Boys in Philadelphia.

It also said it was expanding “by adding the experience and discipline of Cuban baseball, and broadening our programs to include softball.”
