OBITUARY
Donald W. Powell, 82, of Fell Township died on Tuesday at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, Scranton.
Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Walter and Helen Russell Powell. Donald was a graduate of Fell High School, earned his Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and Master’s Degree from Columbia University. He was working on his Doctorate Degree at Columbia University at the time of his passing.
Donald was the proud owner and operator of the Homestead Golf Course for over 25 years, which was established in 1962 on property that has been in the family for over 200 years. Tending to this property gave him much joy.
He is survived by a son, Donald W. Powell II, his twin brother, Dr. S. Robert Powell and grandson, Nathan Donald Powell. He was preceded in death by his brothers, William, James, and Russell.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, January 10th from 2:00 PM until 4:30 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM, in the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc.,621 Main St., Simpson.
