Both members had already been a part of the council and hoped to continue their duties alongside the new administration.

Council member Titus was previously vice president and is now the first trans person in the commonwealth to hold this position.

“Varying where your civil rights lie, you deserve to be in a position of leadership. Your life experience brings so much to every conversation, and anybody who is feeling unrepresented and not heard to know that we see you, we hear you, and we were elected to serve you,” said Titus.

“We are one big family to me, working for our bigger family, our Erie community, so I’m very excited,” said Scahff.

Titus is replacing former city council president Mel Witherspoon, who came to the end of his term.
