Robert W. Kollra Jr. (“Mr. K”) passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on Friday, October 17th. He was the beloved son of the late Robert W. and Romayne Cadden Kollra.
Robert is survived by his longtime companion, Grace Catalano, and was preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa, whom he loved as family. He is also survived by his son Robert Kollra and wife Elizabeth of Abingdon, MD; his daughter Kimberly Benjamin and husband Bruce of Archbald; and his greatest joys — his three grandsons, Noah and Chase Benjamin, and Samuel Robert Kollra; as well as his former wife and friend, Roberta Castle; and many nieces and nephews.
A proud graduate of Scranton Central High School, Robert went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Scranton. His lifelong career began with his very first job at Mueller Family McDonald’s, where he found not just work, but a calling. Over the years, “Mr. K” became a mentor to countless young people, teaching them the value of responsibility, teamwork, and pride in their work — always reminding them, “If there’s time to lean, there’s time to clean.”
Robert’s dedication to his community ran deep. He spent many years coaching at Marvin Dutch Gap Little League and serving as Treasurer for the North Scranton Vikings Football organization. One of his greatest joys was his volunteer work with the Ronald McDonald House, where he served as both a board member and a friend to many families in need.
He was also a proud member of the Polish Club and Lithuanian Tauras Club, and a lifelong parishioner of Mary, Mother of God Parish. Mr. K was truly a pillar of the North Scranton community — a kind, humble man who gave so much of himself to others and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Dunmore Healthcare Center for the compassionate and loving care Robert received following his accident.
The funeral will be Wednesday from Savino Traditional Funerals and Cremation Care, 157 South Main Ave, West Scranton with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30AM in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 Williams Street Scranton. Interment will be held privately in Cathedral Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday October 21st from 5 to 8PM at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 332 Wheeler Ave., Scranton, PA 18510.
