WASHINGTON – A local activist on Friday announced his candidacy for the United States House of Representatives in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District.

Lewis Shupe is looking to run in the Democratic primary, according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission.

In his Friday announcement, Shupe said he is a retired professional with more than 35 years of experience in information technology and would bring a systems-level perspective to public policy.

The district covers Lehigh, Northampton, and Carbon counties, as well as parts of Monroe County.

Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R) currently holds the seat. He defeated Democratic Rep. Susan Wild in the November election.

Other Democratic candidates that would take him on include: Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure; Carol Obando-Derstine, who worked as a PPl supervisor; Ryan Crosswell, a former federal prosecutor; Lehigh County Controller Mark Pinsley; retired Bethlehem firefighter and President of the Professional Fire Fighters Association, Bob Brookes; and Bethlehem resident Aiden Gonzalez.

Pennsylvania’s primary election is scheduled to take place Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
