Each week the Pittsburgh Union Progress issues its high school football rankings throughout the season, with all rankings voted on by the PUP sports staff.

Class 6A

1. Central Catholic (8-1)

2. North Allegheny (7-2)

3. Norwin (6-3)

4. Canon-McMillan (4-5)

5. Mt. Lebanon (2-7)

The skinny: Central Catholic remains on top after routing Seneca Valley, 48-6, while North Allegheny took one of its worst losses in school history against Pine-Richland, 67-0. Norwin is now all but assured of a playoff berth following a 24-21 win against Canon-McMillan, and Mt. Lebanon moves into the No. 5 spot after a 28-6 win over Hempfield.

Class 5A

1. Pine-Richland (8-1)

2. Peters Township (9-0)

3. Woodland Hills (7-2)

4. Penn-Trafford (8-1)

5. Moon (6-3)

The skinny: Pine-Richland turned plenty of heads with a 67-0 beatdown against perennial powerhouse North Allegheny in a non-conference clash, while Peters Township put up its own lopsided shutout win at Baldwin, 61-0. … Woodland Hills and Penn-Trafford each moved up one spot after vanquishing Franklin Regional and Armstrong, respectively — and for the first time all year, say hello to Moon! The Tigers knocked off then-No. 3 Upper St. Clair in double overtime, 20-13.

Class 4A

1. McKeesport (6-3)

2. Thomas Jefferson (7-2)

3. Mars (7-2)

4. New Castle (7-2)

The skinny: McKeesport racked up 62 points in the first half on its way to tallying a school-record 74 points in a 74-6 win at Indiana, while Thomas Jefferson picked up a pivotal 45-6 win at Chartiers Valley. … Mars thumped Hampton, 45-10, and New Castle blasted Ambridge, 56-7. … Meanwhile, Montour re-enters the rankings at No. 5 after roaring back to defeat Aliquippa on the road, 34-20, behind a stellar performance from sophomore quarterback Brandon Bennett.

Montour’s Dylan Rogers celebrates after scoring against Aliquippa on Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, at Aliquippa’s Heinz Field. Montour won, 34-20. (Emily Matthews/Pittsburgh Union Progress)

Class 3A

1. Avonworth (8-0)

2. Imani Christian (8-0)

3. Elizabeth Forward (7-1)

4. Central Valley (5-4)

5. Hopewell (6-3)

The skinny: Three of the five teams represented here hail from the Western Hills Conference, and you could make a case for both North Catholic and Beaver being deserving of spots, too. Surely nobody can argue against Avonworth’s claim to the throne after posting yet another one-sided win, though, this time against the Trojans, 42-10. … Imani Christian kept its perfect record intact, beating Burrell, 53-7, while Elizabeth Forward shut out Southmoreland to hand the Scotties their first loss, 42-0. … Elsewhere, Central Valley rejoins the rankings after taking out Hopewell, 23-7.

Class 2A

1. South Allegheny (8-0)

2. Seton LaSalle (8-1)

3. Washington (8-1)

4. Western Beaver (8-1)

5. Apollo-Ridge (6-3)

The skinny: The WPIAL’s only classification without any changes, as South Allegheny kept on rolling with a 64-14 rout over Sto-Rox, while Seton LaSalle and Washington both posted shutout victories to set up a must-see matchup between the Rebels and Little Prexies for the Century Conference crown in the regular-season finale. … Western Beaver held on for a 20-14 win against New Brighton, and Apollo-Ridge battled past South Park, 45-34.

Class 1A

1. Fort Cherry (9-0)

2. Clairton (8-1)

3. Bishop Canevin (6-3)

4. Laurel (8-1)

5. South Side (7-2)

The skinny: Fort Cherry remained unbeaten with a 42-0 romp against Shenango in a non-conference affair, while Clairton collected its seventh consecutive shutout against Riverview on Saturday, 66-0. … Bishop Canevin cruised past Monessen, 44-7, and Laurel dominated South Side, 45-7, to stake its claim to the Big 7 Conference championship.

City League

1. University Prep (6-2)

2. Westinghouse (6-3)

3. Allderdice (4-5)

The skinny: The City League championship game is all set for Saturday afternoon, as three-time defending champion Westinghouse advanced to its eighth consecutive title game with a 26-6 victory over Allderdice on Thursday. Meanwhile, University Prep blew out Brashear on Friday, 63-6, to set up a highly anticipated rematch against the Bulldogs.
