James P. Burton

OBITUARY

James P. Burton, 52 of Scranton, passed away at home on January 7th, 2026 after being stricken ill.

He is survived by his parents, James J. and Paulette M. Beekman Burton and brother Mark along with his dog Princess.

He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul/St. Anns Church, a graduate of West Scranton High School 1991, and the University of Scranton.

A Lab Technican, he was employed by SNF Polychemie and previously the Scranton Sewer Authority. Standout on the diamond and gridiron, he excelled at Sloan & WS High School.

A NY Yankee & Notre Dame fan, he loved spending Irish Game Day with his Father & Brother. Jimmy, also known as Shaker and Jimbo to family and friends was a man of great compassion and Faith. He had a great devotion to Our Lady and she became a well spring of strength in his life. He best demonstrated his great generosity to those in need, that was his gift.

We, his family, believe in the words of St. John Chrysostom, Those whom we love and lose are no longer where they were before, they are now wherever we are. Jimmy, we love you and you will live on in our hearts forever.

Jimmy was preceded in death by grandparents Ruth & James Burton and Joseph & Lida Beekman.

Family and friends may call Wednesday, January 14th from 9:00am to 9:45am in the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home, 1240 St. Anns Street, Scranton with a Mass at 10:00am in SS. Peter and Paul Church, 1309 W. Locust Street, Scranton. Inurnment Parish Cemetery.
