SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Runners and walkers shook off the chill for an event in Scranton on Saturday. The Scranton Running Company hosted Shiver by the River.
It’s held two times a year, and has been happening for more than a decade. Participants could choose from a 5K or 10K, or a two-mile walk.

All things considered, the course along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail was in pretty good shape.
“It was beautiful. It was not. It was only a tiny bit icy. Usually this time of year it’s snowy, obviously, but it was nice and clear today. It was beautiful,” Katy Casey from Dunmore said.

“It was a little cold in the morning, but as I ran, I got warmer, and I felt better,” Meshoppen resident Eric Diaz Garcia said.
“You know, it’s just a good way to get the first of the year started and the first run of the year going. We’ve got a lot of good people running today just trying to get some exercise in for the beginning of the year,” Scranton Running Company Race Director Jason Geadrities stated.

The next Shiver by the River is scheduled for February 17, the first Saturday of the month, in the Electric City.
