A Mertztown man has been charged in a DUI crash that killed a woman who was operating a horse and buggy in Lancaster County.

Danial R. Miller, 33, is charged with homicide while DUI and multiple DUI-related counts, according to state police at Lancaster.

State police provided the following account:

Troopers responded to a report of a crash involving a minivan and a horse and buggy in the 4000 block of Strasburg Road in Salisbury Township on Jan. 7 about 1:30 p.m.

Investigators determined Miller’s minivan was eastbound on Strasburg Road when it collided with the rear of the horse and buggy. The 65-year-old woman who was operating the buggy was thrown from it.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined Miller was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and was taken into custody at the scene.

Miller was arraigned before District Judge William R. Mankin II and committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $125,000 bail.
