UPPER DARBY, Pa. (WPVI) – A Pennsylvania woman is facing attempted murder charges after she allegedly ran over her boyfriend with her car on New Year’s Eve in an incident that was captured on video.
Upper Darby Police say 23-year-old Destenee Green and her boyfriend got in a fight around 3 p.m. Wednesday while sitting in a Taco Bell parking lot.
“He got out of the vehicle, did the right thing. He knew tempers were really flaring. Got out of the vehicle and walked away,” Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt said.
Police allege Green then chased her boyfriend down, driving the wrong way down the road and over a sidewalk to hit him with her 2019 Hyundai Elantra. She then left the scene.
During the incident, Green also hit a parked tow truck, which police say lessened the impact on her boyfriend. The victim walked away with cuts on his hand and road rash on his back.
Musa Hussain, 12, heard the crash from inside his father’s car shop nearby.
“The guy who got hit, he just picked his stuff up and left,” Musa said. “If we didn’t have this truck, he would’ve been not alive.”
Green is facing attempted murder charges. Police say they have recovered her car and are urging her to turn herself in.
Bernhardt adds that domestic violence incidents have been on the rise in recent weeks.
“Unfortunately, we’ve seen a lot of domestic violence incidents in the past month. It’s a tough time of year. I’ve said it before: I ask everyone to take a deep breath. Stay calm, walk away,” he said.
