After not reaching a deal at midnight, union members with Local 1211 at Parker Lord began to strike at midnight.
Hours into the their picketing, dozens of men and women stood outside of the gates at the plant on Oliver Road.
Dave Ashby, a Union Member said, “We are really just starting this out and getting organized and getting things scheduled and make sure we are running a good picket line for the duration of this strike.”
The strike came after the union and company failed to reach an agreement for a new contract. Ashby explained what they are fighting for, “For a significant pay increase and a three year deal instead of a five year contract. Because we saw significant inflation.”
Union members were at every gate outside of Parker Lord making sure their message was heard loud and clear.
Members of the Union Local 1211 said they are ready to talk to get back to manufacturing
“We would like to get back to the table to get a deal as soon as possible so we all can get back to work”, said Asbhy.
Although it’s only day one, Ashby said they are willing to picket for as long as they need, “I’m proud of the men and women here. I think we showed up in great numbers so far. It’s going to take some time to get this done, but we are here for the long haul.”
We have reached out to the company for comment. There’s no word yet on when discussions could resume.
