Hundreds gathered in Lackawanna County to support Sergeant First Class Paul Welby’s cancer fight.

SCRANTON, Pa. — On Sunday, hundreds in Lackawanna County came together to support a local man’s fight with cancer.

Sergeant First Class Paul Welby was diagnosed with esophageal cancer back in June. It’s believed to be connected to the burn pits he was exposed to while serving in Afghanistan.

Family, friends, and service members were there to support as he undergoes treatment.

Casey O’Day, Paul’s sister, spoke on the support they have recieved at the event. “We are overwhelmed by the amount of people that have already been here, and it only being over an hour, hour and a half of this going on. So I can only imagine what we’re gonna be at, at 6:00 when we do end the day.”

There were raffle baskets, a silent auction, and a 50-50 to support Welby at the event in Scranton.
