Cleveland, Ohio – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect Sunday as lake effect snow and gusty winds are expected to impact travel in northwestern Pennsylvania.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, the advisory applies to southern Erie County and runs from 11 a.m. Sunday until 1 a.m. EST Monday. Forecasters expect lake effect snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches, accompanied by wind gusts up to 40 mph.
Communities including Corry, Union City, and Edinboro are likely to experience periods of reduced visibility as snow bands move through the region. Gusty winds may cause blowing snow, leading to rapidly changing road conditions, particularly on open and untreated roadways.
The National Weather Service cautioned that slippery conditions and slower travel are likely, especially during heavier snow showers Sunday afternoon and evening. In addition to snowfall, wind chills are expected to drop into the teens, creating blustery and uncomfortable conditions for those outdoors.
Transportation officials urge motorists to use caution and avoid unnecessary travel when possible. Drivers are advised to slow down, increase following distances, and be prepared for snow-covered roads.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission strongly encourage travelers to heed any travel restrictions and delay non-essential trips during the advisory period. Real-time road and traffic updates are available at 511pa.com.
Lake effect snow events can produce localized higher totals, meaning conditions may vary significantly over short distances across southern Erie County.
