Mercyhurst University has announced a new partnership with the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) allowing for a structured pathway for students who are interested in receiving academic internships and other credits through participation with the Pennsylvania State Police Academy.

Through this ongoing commitment to prepare students in fields related to public safety, criminal justices, and other related fields.

Students who are accepted and complete the program will receive internship credit or a equal credit from Mercyhurst University where they can graduate from Mercyhurst and complete the PSP Academy program simultaneously. They will receive academic learning and high-level professional training.

“We are pleased to formalize this partnership with the Pennsylvania State Police,” said Dr. Kathleen Getz, President of Mercyhurst University. “Mercyhurst has a rich tradition of excellence in criminal justice and intelligence studies, and this collaboration expands the opportunities available to our students while supporting the Commonwealth’s need for well-prepared public safety professionals.”

“This partnership reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to develop the next generation of public servants,” added Dr. Rich McCarty, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Students who seek to serve and protect their communities will now have a clearer academic pathway to do so, and we are grateful to the Pennsylvania State Police for their collaboration.”

Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, Colonel Christopher L. Paris highlighted that this program brings a meaningful impact to the collaboration. “The Pennsylvania State Police is proud to work alongside Mercyhurst University to support students who are dedicated to service and excellence,” Paris said. “This agreement creates a valuable bridge between academic preparation and the demands of law enforcement training, helping to ensure that future troopers enter the field with a strong foundation and a commitment to the highest standards.”

Effective for up to ten years allows for student success and a public service across the Commonwealth.
