DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Motorists traveling through Lackawanna County should expect lane restrictions on Interstate 81 in both directions later this week as crews conduct infrastructure inspections.

According to transportation officials, traffic will be reduced on northbound and southbound I-81 between Exit 187, which connects to Interstates 84 and 380 toward Mount Pocono and Milford, and Exit 185 at the President Biden Expressway. The work is scheduled for Wednesday, January 14, and Thursday, January 15, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting.

The restrictions are needed to allow crews to inspect retaining walls along the highway. Drivers should anticipate delays during the work period and are encouraged to plan accordingly.

Officials are reminding motorists to use caution when traveling through work zones by obeying posted speed limits, using headlights, watching for signs and flaggers, and staying alert. In heavier traffic, drivers are advised to use all available lanes until reaching the merge point and to merge alternately into the open lane.

The work schedule may change depending on weather conditions.
