BERKS COUNTY, Pa. – The state is chipping in funds for two upcoming projects in Berks County.

First, the state awarded a grant of $1 million dollars for the development of West Wyomissing Park.

That will be at the site of a former school in the 2100 block of Garfield Avenue.

Plans call for walking trails, a parking area, a tricycle track and other features.

There will also be playground equipment with safety surfacing and a pavilion.

The state is also giving more than $350,000 to add to the Schuylkill River Trail in Reading.

Plans call for building about a tenth of a mile stretch of trail from Riverfront Drive to the intersection of Front and Penn streets.

Lighting, making the trail more accessible and improving the landscaping will also be covered by the funding.

Once all sections are complete, the trail will eventually stretch 120 miles from Philadelphia to the Frackville area of Schuylkill County.
