The Fabric Workshop and Museum Is Hosting a Workshop Where You Can Create Your Own Vinyl Love Letter Using a Vintage Record Lathe

Published on January 13, 2026

This Valentine’s season, creativity takes center stage at The Fabric Workshop and Museum with Love Notes: Record Pressing and Printing, a hands-on workshop presented in partnership with Consonant Collective. Taking place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, the intimate experience invites participants to turn a heartfelt song, poem, or spoken message into a one-of-a-kind vinyl record—complete with a custom-printed album cover.

Designed as a truly personal alternative to traditional Valentine’s gifts, Love Notes allows guests to “put it to press” by submitting a five-minute audio recording in advance. During the workshop, attendees will watch as their recording is physically cut onto vinyl using a vintage record lathe from the 1930s, offering a rare glimpse into early sound-recording technology.

But the experience doesn’t stop there. Participants will then design and screenprint their own record label and sleeve, using monoprinting techniques to create a finished piece that’s as visually striking as it is meaningful. The result is a fully handmade, playable record—equal parts love letter, artwork, and keepsake.

Workshops are offered in two sessions, 1:00–2:30 PM and 3:00–4:30 PM, and take place at The Fabric Workshop and Museum, located at 1214 Arch Street. Registration is required, and space is limited. Pricing is $45 for the public and $40 for FWM members, with advance reservations strongly encouraged. Audio files must be submitted by January 31.

Consonant Collective, the Philadelphia-based arts collective leading the workshop, is known for its whimsical, DIY approach to publishing and sound. Founded by Katie Haegele and Joe Carlough, the collective releases vinyl records, poetry, and experimental audio using historic lathes and small-batch printing methods—making them the perfect collaborators for this tactile, love-filled project.

Whether you’re crafting a romantic serenade, a spoken-word note, or a deeply personal message, Love Notes offers a rare chance to transform sound into a tangible object—just in time for Valentine’s Day.
