Robert R. Bates
OBITUARY
Robert R. Bates, 80, of North Scranton died Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit. His wife of 57 years is the former Norma Peters.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Clarence and Antonette Nardella. A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1963, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Prior to retirement he was employed by the Scranton School District.
Also surviving are son Richard Bates and wife Jane, Massachusetts; daughter Beth Bates, Dickson City; grandchildren Nathan, Zach, and Sarah; sister-in-law Marie Faramelli; nieces Anna and Katie.
Family and friends may pay their respects and celebrate Roberts life Friday from 5-7 pm in the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton. Interment with Military Honors in Abington Hills Cemetery will be private.
