RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – To celebrate America’s 250th birthday the Rapid City Public Library is inviting the community to take part in a yearlong reading challenge.
The goal is to read 250,000 books in 2026.
Participants can track their reading online or submit a paper tracking form at the library to have their books counted toward the community goal.
Each month a reader logs their reading, they earn an entry into that month’s prize drawing, with additional entries each month if they continue participating.
The top 10 readers in each age category will also earn a bonus entry that month.
In the month of January, winners in the children, teens and adult categories will receive four center-ice tickets from the Rapid City Rush. Prizes change monthly, so readers are encouraged to check back to see what they could win simply by tracking their reading.
The community’s progress toward the 250,000-book goal can be followed on the library’s website or on the mural displayed in the library lobby, with every painted block representing 100 books read.
