New details have been released following a deadly multi-vehicle crash on Interstate I-79 in Mercer County.

According to Mercer County Coroner John Libonati, 22-year-old Erie resident, Austin Golab, died after suffering blunt force trauma to the head and chest. The death has been ruled accidental.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s 511PA website, the crash happened on I-79 northbound just over one mile north of exit 122 in Jackson Township.

Sources tell us the victim was traveling back to Slippery Rock University, where he was a student, at the time of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police.

NBC affiliate WFMJ in Youngstown, Ohio reported the crash closed roadways going in both directions between the I-80 interchange and Exit 130 for a number of hours. PSP says the roadways have since reopened.

Pennsylvania State Police is investigating what caused the crash.

Until the family has been notified, the name of the individual involved will not be released.
