Erie Plaza 2024

ELMIRA, NY (WENY) — The former Erie plaza on Elmira’s south side has sat vacant for years, but now the property is in the process of being demolished.

Demolition crews from LCP Group in Vestival have begun tearing down the dilapidated property. At one point, the shopping center held a grocery store, and a variety of local businesses.

Most recently, in 2024 it was placed on the city’s list of blighted properties, and had been the target of vandals. The owner at the time, an LLC based out of Niagara Falls, NY told WENY News he was waiting on the proper permits to move forward with redeveloping the property. As of now, the property is listed as owned by Chemung County.

The city of Elmira said it will announce future plans for the property at a press conference on Tuesday.
