GREENWICH TWP., Pa. – As a winter storm makes its way through the region, an accident involving a dozen vehicles is causing major backups on I-78 near the Berks/Lehigh County line.
The crash happened this morning in the westbound lanes near mile marker 39.1 in Greenwich Township, Berks County.Â
Initial emergency dispatches called for a multi-vehicle crash in the area.
Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) confirm multiple vehicles were either disabled or piled up between Exits #35 and #40 following the crash that happened just before 8 a.m.

Trooper Ethan Brownback with PSP confirmed the 12-vehicle crash with entrapment involved four commercial vehicles and eight passenger cars.
I-78 is currently closed westbound between exits #45 and #35.
The eastbound lanes are closed at Exit #35, according to PSP.
It is not known at this time how many people were injured.
