Roger E. Seliga

OBITUARY

Roger E. Seliga, age 83, passed away on January 10, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Roger was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph and Caroline (Wilk) Szeliga. As a child, he moved with his family to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where he spent most of his life. After retiring, Roger returned to his hometown of Scranton, where he resided until his passing.

Roger earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and enjoyed a long career as a computer programmer before his retirement. He proudly served in the United States National Guard and was a Worshipful Master of the Corinthian Masonic Lodge #104 in Stratford, Connecticut. In his younger years, Roger was also a bass drummer with the New York Skyliners Drum and Bugle Corps, an experience he greatly cherished.

An avid train enthusiast, Roger chose his Scranton home specifically for its location along the railroad tracks. He delighted in sitting on his deck watching trains pass by, and over time the engineers came to know him well, often waving as they went by. Roger was known as a kind, generous man who was always willing to help anyone in need.

Roger is survived by his nephew, James Seliga and his wife Kelly; and his cousins Nancy Pron, Lynn (Pron) Oliver, Karen Polimeni, Sally Bisch, Sister-in -law, Patricia Seliga, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Caroline (Wilk) Szeliga; his brother, Joseph F. Seliga; and his nephew, Joseph E. Seliga.

The funeral will be Monday with Mass celebrated at noon in St. Stanislaus Polish National Catholic Cathedral, 529 E. Locust St., Scranton, by Prime Bishop Anthony Mikovsky. Interment with military honors, Parish cemetery, Kane St., Scranton.

Family and friends may call Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Nicholas Chomko Funeral Home, 1132 Prospect Ave., South Scranton. Arrangements by Joseph W. Sznyter, F.D.
