Former New York Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka could join as next Eagles OC.Andrew Mills | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com
The Eagles have interviewed former Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka for their offensive coordinator opening, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Kafka became the interim after head coach Brian Daboll got fired in November. He was New York’s offensive coordinator for the last four years.
The Eagles are familiar with Kafka from his time with them as a player. He was Philadelphia’s backup quarterback in 2010 and 2011.
After his short NFL career, Kafka joined former Eagles coach Andy Reid’s staff with the Chiefs. He spent four of his five years in Kansas City as the quarterbacks coach for Patrick Mahomes.
Kafka called plays for the Giants’ offense in 2022, 2023 and 2025. New York ranked 18th in total offense in 2022, 29th in 2023 and 13th in 2025.
The numbers are underwhelming, but Kafka’s struggles are tied to the Giants’ offensive line and quarterback issues. He could have had more success with a stronger supporting cast.
In 2025, Kafka helped develop Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, who looks like a franchise-caliber player. Dart completed 216-of-339 passing attempts for 2,272 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The Eagles need quarterback Jalen Hurts to rebound next season after a down year in 2025. Former offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo wasn’t able to maximize Hurts’ skill set, which is one of the reasons he got fired.
Perhaps Kafka could be the one who takes Hurts’ game to the next level.
Philadelphia already interviewed former Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson for the job. They have reportedly expressed interest in Daboll, Mike McDaniel and Charlie Weis Jr..
