SCRANTON, LACKWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A brief but urgent search for a young child in Scranton ended safely Monday night after police located the girl and reunited her with her guardian.

According to the Scranton Police Department, officers were called to the area of Maple Street and South Webster Avenue in South Scranton around 6:45 p.m. after a non-verbal child was found walking alone. Concerned officers immediately began working to identify the girl and locate her family.

Police reached out to the public for help, sharing limited information in hopes of quickly determining where the child belonged. The response helped investigators piece together the necessary details, and just over two hours later, authorities confirmed the child had been safely reunited with her guardian.

Police say the girl was not injured and is now safe. Officials thanked community members who shared information and helped spread the word during the search, noting that the quick outcome highlights the importance of public awareness in situations involving vulnerable children.

The incident was logged as a “found child” investigation and has since been closed.
