Barbara Ann (Spitzer) Anderson
OBITUARY
Barbara Anderson, 90, died peacefully at home in Midlothian, VA on December 22, 2025. Barbara Ann Spitzer was born June 21, 1935 in Scranton, PA to Joseph Spitzer and Helen McGuire. She graduated from Scranton Central HS in 1953 along with her future husband, Robert C. Anderson. Barbara then graduated from the Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing, after which Bob and Barbara married in 1958. The couple moved to Roaring Brook Township, PA in 1962 where they raised their three children. Barbara worked as an RN throughout her lifetime, primarily in maternity and geriatrics. The family moved to Richmond VA in 1982.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Bob in July 2025. She is survived by her son Robert Anderson Jr. and wife Lori of Beaverdam VA, her daughter Susan Anderson of Huntersville NC, her son Daniel Anderson and wife Candice of Midlothian VA, as well as three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother Dr. John Spitzer and her sisters Marguerite Boland, Claire Burke, and Dorothy Hudson.
Mom was active in the PTA for North Pocono schools in the 1970s, including as President. She took up racquetball in her 40s and became quite accomplished, winning the gold medal for the 70 – 75 age group at the National Senior Games in 2005. She also enjoyed pickleball, swimming, crochet, pinochle, canasta, dominoes, and was a Red Cross volunteer. Mom was so physically strong that her body simply refused to give out. She loved the Lord, loved her family, and loved caring for people, especially children. She put others needs before her own, a truly compassionate and kind person.
The family would like to thank Suncrest Hospice for their care and assistance. Blileys Funeral Home of Richmond, VA is serving the family. A private service was held.
