GREENWICH TWP., Pa. – Six people were injured, one seriously, after the 11-vehicle crash that closed a stretch of I-78 in Berks County for hours over the weekend.
In a news release, Pennsylvania State Police say the driver of a tractor trailer was driving too fast on the snow-covered surface on I-78 westbound just east of Hausman Road Saturday morning.
State police say the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the center concrete barrier.
Ten more vehicles, including three tractor trailers, then crashed into the first vehicle, state police said.
According to state police, six drivers and passengers were taken to area hospitals for their injuries.
Ten of the 11 involved vehicles were towed from the scene, according to the news release.
State police say applicable traffic citations will be issued against the tractor trailer driver they say was going too fast.
The crash closed the road for about seven hours Saturday.
