WAUKEE, Iowa —

Iowa’s fastest growing city could soon have a new development along two of its major travel corridors.

The Waukee City Council passed a first reading of rezoning space on the corner of East Hickman Road and Northeast Alice’s Rd, across from Hy-Vee.

The concept plan is for a potential retail grocer along with a parking area, gas station, and convenience store.

The council says a specific user has not been identified, and a site plan has not been submitted yet. The city says a traffic study done during the widening project along Northeast Alice’s Road suggests that a development on this corner would not impact current traffic flow.

The proposal will need to pass two more readings before the rezoning is official.
