Attention Philly Artists: South Street District Is Looking for 15–20 Creatives to Design the Corridor’s Street Banners

Published on January 20, 2026

The South Street District is calling on Philly’s creative community to help shape the visual identity of one of the city’s most iconic corridors. The district has officially opened a call for artists to design a new series of lamppost banners that will celebrate the history, energy, and unmistakable spirit of South Street.

As part of this public art and beautification initiative, the South Street District is seeking 15–20 artists, including sign painters, typographers, graphic designers, illustrators, and other visual creatives. Selected works will be transformed into large-scale banners displayed throughout the district, serving as both a warm welcome for visitors and a bold visual marker for the neighborhood.

More than just a design opportunity, the project is rooted in community support and creative recognition. The initiative aims to uplift Philadelphia-based artists by putting their work directly into the public realm. In addition to having their designs featured along South Street, all selected artists will be highlighted on a dedicated page on the South Street District website, giving added visibility and long-term recognition to their work.

South Street has long been a hub for counterculture, music, art, fashion, and independent businesses, and the district is encouraging artists to draw inspiration from that layered legacy. From its punk roots and nightlife history to its role as a crossroads for creative expression, the banners are meant to reflect what makes South Street one of Philadelphia’s most dynamic and enduring neighborhoods.

Applications are now open and will be accepted through January 30, 2026. Artists interested in contributing to this highly visible public art project are encouraged to apply and bring their vision to one of the city’s most storied streets. Link to application is located in the South Street District’s IG Bio.
