In Western New York, Erie County residents can enhance local wildlife and environmental health by participating in the 2026 Conservation Tree and Shrub Seedling Sale
BUFFALO, N.Y. — It may still be winter in Western New York, but now is a good time to start thinking about the spring.Â
The Erie County Soil and Water Conservation District is now taking orders for the 2026 Conservation Tree and Shrub Seedling Sale.

There will be many varieties of trees and shrubs, along with wildflowers seed mixes available to purchase that will attract, feed and shelter birds, butterflies and other wildlife.Â
Experts say planting seedlings and wildflowers provide wildlife food, habitat, shelter crops and landscape. They also reduce heating/cooling expenses, protest water quality and reduce air pollution, they say.
There are 32 species of trees and shrubs available this year. The bare root seedlings are one to three years old, and range in size from 6 to 24 inches. They are available in lots of 10 to 100.Â
The District is also offering a selection of more mature trees, like evergreen transplant.
In addition to the trees, shrubs and seedlings, county residents will be able to purchase stocks marking flags, fertilizer tablets, and tree shelters You can also order Bluebird nest boxes.

Orders are due by February 27, 2026. Order pick-up will be held on Saturday April 18, 2026.
