The board is expected to vote on the redistricting lines tonight at 7 p.m., but some parents want the vote delayed. They believe the vote is rushed and doesn’t prioritize students.

The proposed rezoning aims to balance enrollments and class sizes across the Bethlehem Central School District’s five elementary schools. After reviewing four maps, the board narrowed it down to two options.

Both plans would shift about 150 students to different schools starting next school year. Parents have previously voiced frustrations at board meetings.

“They’re losing their friend,” said Bethlehem parent Katie Miller. “My daughter has a good group of friends and they’re staying and she’s leaving. That’s tough, especially in those older grades, it’s a huge transition.”

The board’s decision tonight will determine the next steps in the rezoning process.
