Reading have signed Haydon Roberts from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee and brought in fellow defender Ryan Nyambe on loan from Derby County.

Roberts, 23, has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal while Nyambe joins until the end of the season.

Roberts is capable of playing anywhere across the backline while predominantly featuring on the left-hand side.

“He’s a player we’ve been aware of for some time and someone we feel will be a really good fit for what we’re building here,” said manager Leam Richardson.

“He’s already made a decent number of appearances at Championship level, which says a lot about his ability and mentality. He brings athleticism and versatility, particularly down the left side, and we’re looking forward to getting him settled in quickly and seeing the impact he can make.”

Nyambe, 28, can also play across the backline and has made seven league appearances for the Rams in this Championship campaign.

He started his career at Blackburn Rovers where he went on to make more than 200 first-team appearances.

He also played 33 times for Wigan Athletic between 2022 and 2023 where he worked under Richardson.

“First and foremost, he’s a great guy and a real character to have around the group, he knows exactly what it takes to get out of League One and has hundreds of matches of experience at both League One and Championship level,” said the Royals boss.

“Ryan brings quality, versatility and real professionalism, and he’ll add valuable depth to the backline for the remainder of the season.”
