Sandra Joan Shomper
OBITUARY
Sandra Joan Shomper, age 88, of Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2026. Sandy was born on November 19th, 1937 in West Lawn, PA, to Elwood “Bud” and Shirley Helms.
After graduating from Muhlenberg High School in 1955, Sandy held jobs at Metropolitan Edison Company, The Literacy Council of Reading and the Reading Country Club.
Sandy enjoyed playing piano from her early years and transferred her love of music to her children. Her musical enjoyment continued by singing with the Sweet Adelines for many years. She also looked forward to having lunch with her high school classmates or her Christian Women’s Club group, shopping at the Reading Fairgrounds Market and Boscov’s, eating chocolate from Billy’s Candies and watching the birds in her backyard.
Sandy is survived by her sisters, Joyce Turney and Marcia Mears, her sons Gregory (Anita Napoli), Steven (Karen), and Michael (Linda), four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and her former husband, Jason Shomper.
Sandy lovingly raised her family in Pennsylvania, but in her senior years enjoyed the sunny life in Florida with her four-legged buddy Peanut.
Sandy will be buried at Forest Hills Memorial Park. A memorial service date and location is yet to be determined. Contributions in Sandy’s name may be made to Good Shepherd UCC church, Reading or Fort Myers Christian Church.
