Newswatch 16’s Valeria Quiñones shares how residents in Scranton are preparing for what could be the biggest snowstorm the Northeast has seen in years.
SCRANTON, Pa. — Shoppers at Gerrity’s in Keyser Oak Shopping Center in Scranton are preparing for what meteorologists say could be the biggest snowstorm the northeast has seen in years.
Blake Powell is the closing manager at Gerrity’s. He says the store has been extremely busy with shoppers buying the essentials. “Pretty much the regular. Milk, eggs, butter, but really just everything, you know, because people are prepared to stay indoors for the next two or three days, you know, so they’re really just, they’re buying everything.”
Milk, eggs, and butter seem to be exactly what’s on the snowstorm menu. Some shoppers say they’re preparing for the worst.
“Snowpacalypse! Got to get the bread and milk, french toast for everybody. I will say I’m probably happy I got in here before the craziness starts. I’m predicting tomorrow everybody is going to get out of work and probably be here, so I said to my wife, let’s just get it over with,” says Sean Flynn from Scranton.
Shopper, Jenny Coolbaugh from Tunkhannock, had no idea of what’s to come. “I was here the other day. I don’t watch TV, so I didn’t know the storm was coming, to be honest, so I stocked up on my provisions the other day. It looks scary, yes, I’m not happy.”
Gerrity workers say while the store is busy, they’re prepared to get an even bigger rush of shoppers just before the storm is set to roll in Saturday night.
“It’s probably going to be a lot busier than it is today because the furthest we get the closest to the storm, the more business we’re going to get. I think the storm is supposed to come in Saturday night, Saturday morning we’re going to be slammed,” says Powell.
