WYOMISSING, Pa. – State Hill Road in Wyomissing could get a major makeover in a few years.

“We’re looking at improvements on State Hill Road between the 222 ramps and Spring intersections,” said PennDOT press secretary, Sean Brown.

PennDOT is proposing adding three roundabouts to those intersections.

“This is an area that does have some safety concerns with some of the traditional signal intersections,” said Brown. “There’s been instances of crashes out there and it’s also a congested area.”

But, before anything is set in stone, PennDOT is taking the community’s concerns into consideration. Monday night, starting at 6:30 at Wyomissing Hills Elementary School, they’re inviting the public to share their concerns.

If the project does move forward, PennDOT officials say they don’t have plans for detours yet, but they acknowledge the construction will disrupt traffic in the area.

“This is an area we would want to minimize the effect of the traffic, so we want to leave it open for traffic, maybe have some restrictions at sometimes, but that hasn’t been determined,” said Brown.

What has been determined is PennDOT officials say they will also address some of the flooding issues that occur regularly in the area of State Hill Road and Spring Street.

Brown said, “We would look at improvements for the drainage so that would be part of the project is dealing with any issues with water and drainage.”

People can also share their opinion on the PennDOT project page.

The project isn’t expected to begin until 2027.
