Romayne Schafka

OBITUARY

Romayne Schafka, 98, of Old Forge, died Wednesday evening at The Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness.

Born in Old Forge, daughter of the late Roman and Olive Rolka Schafka, she was an Old Forge High School graduate. She was a lifelong resident of Old Forge and a parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea. Romayne was a former parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, Old Forge, prior to its closure.

Romayne lived a life of service to others. She devoted her time to her faith, family and any friend in need. She was an adored Aunt to many nieces and nephews and their children and found great joy in the simple and meaningful moments. She will be deeply and forever missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved cousin Leonard Sharek and wife Josephine, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral will be Wednesday, January 28, 2026, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea, to be celebrated by Rev. Michael Bryant, Pastor. Interment will follow (weather permitting) in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Austin Heights, Old Forge.

Relatives and friends are invited to a public viewing in the church on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Romayne’s family has entrusted arrangements to the care of Ferri & Gillette Funeral Services, LLC, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge.
