After plans for a second location fell through, a French-inspired bakery is using those plans for its original location alongside a new breakfast menu, expanded hours and more.

Let Them Eat Cake is in the middle of those changes at 112 S. Main St. in Nazareth, where co-owner Taylor Romero said it had moved about a year and a half ago after it opened in 2023 at 143 S. Main St. It temporarily closed for renovations Jan. 1, and reopened Friday.

Romero, who runs the bakery alongside her mother Channon Smyly, said they will launch the breakfast menu in late February or early March to include items like eggs benedict, yogurt parfait, avocado toast, honey butter pancakes and French toast styles like tiramisu and crème brûlée. The lunch menu has expanded to include new sandwiches, soups and salads, and the bakery also serves tea, cupcakes, macarons, brownies and custom wedding cakes.

Other changes include doubling the seating to have about 50 people, allowing people to order à la carte instead of prix fixe menus and allowing walk-ins instead of just reservations. Romero said they’ll start allowing weekday walk-ins on Tuesday and weekend walk-ins March 7.

Romero noted their space’s small size as part of why they wanted to expand, with Smyly adding they had to start turning people away after getting booked up.

It’s why they originally planned to open the sister location Let Them Drink Tea in Bethlehem, though they later announced in June that it wouldn’t move forward. Romero explained it ultimately wasn’t the right fit for them, but that they were able to transfer their plans to their original location, including the new second kitchen dedicated to tea.

“We want to sit larger parties, we want to be able to accept walk-ins, we want to be able to have everyone experience our tea,” Romero said.

She later added of the changes, “It means a lot. It was really heartbreaking, I want to say, last year when we weren’t able to open Let Them Drink Tea, and I had felt a little bit defeated about the whole experience. And so I had to change my way of thinking and I had to pivot, and I’m extremely grateful for everyone that’s gotten me to this point, especially my family. I’m extremely grateful for all the customers that have come and supported us, and tell us how much they love our tearoom. This is my dream. This is my only thing that keeps me going. This is the love of my life. This is my baby. This is my place.”

Romero said they may still open multiple locations in the future.

Let Them Eat Cake operates 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, earlier than the previous 10 a.m. opening time. Once it implements breakfast, it will serve the menu 8 a.m. to noon and lunch after that.

The Proper Brewing Co. founders Brian and Kris Wilson have sold the business, located in the historic Palace Theatre building at 117 W. Broad St. in Quakertown, to employee Melissa Szymkiewicz.

The sandwich restaurant Wiz Kidz permanently closed in mid-December at 751 Union Blvd. in Allentown and temporarily closed Jan. 3 at 65 E. Elizabeth Ave. in Bethlehem.

The Wicked Chef will close Friday at 279 Cetronia Road in South Whitehall Township.

Bincho-Don will open in February to replace the former More Than Q Barbecue Co. at the Easton Public Market in Easton, according to a news release from the Greater Easton Development Partnership.

“I’m incredibly excited to bring Bincho-Don to the Easton Public Market,” owner Kadon Barnwell said in the release. “The concept is inspired by the island foods I grew up around — Caribbean, Guyanese, Honduran, and Filipino — and the way those cultures use rice, fire, spice, and time to create comforting, soulful meals. EPM feels like the perfect place to build something community-driven, and I’m looking forward to cooking food that feels both familiar and a little unexpected.”

A new Sheetz drive-thru may open near the intersection of Route 100 North and Tilghman Street in Upper Macungie Township after planners gave it a positive recommendation Wednesday.
