A 27-year-old North Whitehall Township man was shot and injured by police after firing a gun from his vehicle and pointing it at officers, state police said.

Shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday, troopers were called to the 2800 block of Rockdale Road in North Whitehall Township for the report of a disturbance involving a male with a gun. There, they found a 27-year-old man seated in the driver’s seat of a car parked in the driveway of the residence. He had a handgun in his possession.

Despite efforts to have the man exit the car peacefully, he fired his gun from the car more than once, and pointed the gun at troopers multiple times, police said.

The Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team arrived on scene and attempted to negotiate. Around 2 p.m., the man fired his gun from the car, and was shot by a SERT member, police said.

The male, whose identity has not been released, was treated at the scene by Northern Valley EMS and taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for his injuries, police said. No officers were injured.

This investigation is being conducted by the PSP Troop M Major Case Team with the assistance of the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
