Enikö Katalin Bornemisza Russell
OBITUARY
May 27, 1939 – October 18, 2025
Enikö Russell passed away on October 18, 2025, at home, surrounded by her husband and friends, and her beloved cat Kat. The cause was metastatic breast cancer.
Enikö Bornemisza was born in 1939 in Kaposvar, Hungary. She spent her childhood in Germany, New York and Ligonier, PA. She met her husband of 65 years, James, at a Penn State folk dancing event, the beginning of a lifelong romance and shared love of dancing. They married in 1960 and settled in the Whitfield neighborhood of Reading, Pennsylvania where they lived for the entirety of their marriage, creating a home of beauty and style and a bountiful garden which brought them much joy.
Enikö worked as a Certified Public Accountant, supporting several Reading arts organizations such as the Reading Symphony Orchestra and the Reading Public Museum. She spent her life cultivating beauty. She collected arts and crafts, wrote poetry and was a keen observer of nature and wildlife – and a Master Gardener – pursuits passed on to her family.
She is survived by her husband, James Bennett Russell, daughter Zolna Russell of Baltimore, (daughter Melinda Russell passed away in 2023), and her son John Burr Russell of London. She had five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 28, 2026, at the Reading Public Museum at 2pm. Please RSVP at enikorussellcelebration@gmail.com if you would like to attend. All are welcome.
