Snowstorm hits Western Pennsylvania: See conditions in the City of Pittsburgh

So this is 2nd Avenue and, uh, to the left of the screen is going towards downtown where this truck is this vehicle is coming from, and then if we swing back towards the right, that’s the direction headed towards Greenfield. And then, uh, straight ahead is the hill on Bate Street that takes you up into, uh, the greater Oakland area. So pretty much this street here has been plowed maybe *** couple of times and cars are making their way through. About 12 cars have come through about the past 10 minutes. But some vehicles are getting stuck trying to get up Bate Street. Uh, we watched 3 vehicles get halfway up, um, just past the curve there, then they had to turn around and come back downhill. And then, um, you know, we have more cars that are trying to, uh, make their way towards downtown. Sometimes they have some difficulty, but the bottom line is that 2nd Avenue. While it looks like it’s been plowed once or twice since the, since the snowfall started, um, you still have some difficulty, uh, for some vehicles to get through, and *** lot of these vehicles, they have front wheel drive and they don’t have four-wheel drive or even all wheel drive, but the conditions here are pretty much the way they are all over the region. *** lot of snow cover and some roads, uh, look somewhat passable, but *** lot of roads right now, um, Will present some difficulty. In the next hour we’re gonna make our way further up into the Oakland area to see what 5th Avenue looks like and Forbes Avenue because those streets lead to uh UPMC Hospital and um that’s one of the primary routes that they want to keep clear uh for first responders, for the hospitals and Uh, uh, streets close to the fire stations and all of the first responders, they need to have good access, uh, to get to some of these emergency calls if they have to. So we’re going to head into that area to check out what the conditions are like along the main arteries around the hospital and then go forward. So, you have more vehicles again trying to make their way up into Oakland, up Bate Street. Some of them are making it. That car looks like it’s going onto the Parkway east. Um, headed towards Monroeville, and then you have another car here, um, that’s actually turning into *** technology drive and, um, you know, people are trying to make their way and some people are getting stuck, but then they, you know, they are able to navigate and, and get on their way safely. So those are the conditions that we have right now and we’ll give you another update in the next hour. For now, covering Allegheny County in Pittsburgh, Sheldon Ingram, Pittsburgh’s Action News 4.
