OBITUARY

Richard J. Leonard, 78, of Scranton died January 22, 2026 at home. His wife of 54 years is the former Susan Lis.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Merle and Helen Judge Leonard. A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1965, he attended Midwestern University in Texas while he was in the service. Prior to retirement he was employed by Letica Corp.

Richard was an Air Force veteran who served in Vietnam as a medivac pilot. He received the Purple Heart due to injuries sustained while rescuing other soldiers behind enemy lines. He was an avid fisherman, coin collector, and enjoyed his weekly Friday nights out with his close band parent friends. Richard was also a die hard Penn State football fan.

Surviving are son William Leonard, Scranton; daughter Corey Antal; grandchildren Kyle Patrick Leonard, Maryland, Avery and Peyton Antal and Ainsley Alaimo; siblings, Karen (Bob) Healey, Frank Leonard, Peg Hurley, Diane Converse, Bob Leonard, all of Scranton; Tom (Patti) Leonard, Taylor, Linda (Bob) McHugh, Archbald, Joan (Ed) Murphy, Clarks Summit, and Maureen Leonard and fiance Art Vanbuskirk, Dickson City; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by brothers Daniel and Jerry Leonard and sisters-in-law Kim Leonard & Lisa Leonard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 29th at 10am in Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton. Family and friends may pay their respects from 9AM – 10AM in the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Parkinsons Disease Association at apdaparkinson.org.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton.
