Dr. Harold ‘Skip’ L. Nelson, Jr., V.M.D.

OBITUARY

Harold “Skip” L. Nelson Jr., V.M.D., 74, Waverly Twp., sadly passed away on Thursday. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Lavelle) Nelson. He was a cherished brother, father, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Skip was born September 13, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was raised in Montrose, PA by the late Harold L. and Sally (Little) Nelson, Jr. He was a proud graduate of Lehigh University and the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He was the owner and operator of Glenburn Veterinarians, P.C. for over 45 years. He was a longtime and active member of Glen Oak Country Club and the Rotary Club of the Abingtons serving as President and becoming a Paul Harris Fellow.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his sons, Chris Nelson, and Pete Nelson (Alyssa); his sister, Laurie Nelson (Peter Jessop); and siblings Kathleen, Mary Jo Kelly (Jim), Ellen Conant, Ann Powell (Richard), and Patrick Lavelle (Patricia). He was proceeded in death by his dear brothers-in-law, John Lavelle and Charlie Conant.

Skip was a wonderful, caring veterinarian who loved his profession, and created many longstanding relationships with his clients. Skip loved the game of golf, enjoying many years of league play with various partners. Through the years, he has enjoyed many Canadian fishing trips with his brother-in-law John, and train trips with the Anthracite Adventurers.

The funeral will take place on Saturday, January 31, at 12pm at the Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10-12pm at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Abington Rotary Club or the Ronald McDonald House of Scranton.
