OBITUARY
Richard W. Luther, 81, of Scranton, PA, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, at Geisinger Community Medical Center.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Maryann (Dunning) of Scranton; his sons Christopher (Michele) of Archbald and Jason (Maureen) of Moosic. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Florence (Quinn) Luther, and by his brother, David Luther.
Richard was a devoted family man whose greatest joy came from the people he loved. Known for his gentle spirit and kind heart, he spent his life embracing the outdoors, caring for animals, and finding beauty in the world around him. His remarkable craftsmanship was evident in the beautiful, creative birdhouses he built – pieces admired not only for their uniqueness but for the love and patience he poured into each one. Richard was also an avid fly tier and fly fisherman, a hobby that reflected both his artistry and his deep appreciation for nature.
He will be remembered for his warmth, quiet strength, loyalty, and the countless ways he made life richer for those around him.
A private Mass of Christian Burial was held at Divine Mercy Parish, by the Reverend Paul McDonnell, O.S.J., followed by interment in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
